iPod Shuffle Mini-Review

December 31, 2006 Reviews No Comments

Specsdimensions20060912 Ok, I know what are thinking. Why even bother to review an iPod, everyone already has one! In the case of the latest iPod shuffle I just could not resist! By far one of the coolest gadgets to hit the market this year the new iPod Shuffle fixes all the wrongs done by the previous version of this tiny mp3 player. About the size of a book of matches, this tiny music machine gives all the power of an iPod but in a size that makes it easy just clip it on and go.

LG Fusic LX-550 Mini-Review

December 31, 2006 Reviews 4 Comments

Lx550 M F M These days you can never get enough features in cell phones. It sure seems like each new handset on the market has something new that then becomes the must-have thing for the next several months. The LG Fusic stakes claim to being the first clamshell flip-phone with an FM transmitter built-in. This little feature lets you listen to MP3s on any FM radio provided you tune in to the frequency used by the Fusic. In additon to the FM transmitter you get a decent quality handset that also features stereo Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, changable faceplates, and high speed EVDO internet access. All things considered, this phone really has a ton of great features at a fair price.

Three Reasons Why Social Bookmarking Is About To Get Ugly

December 27, 2006 Commentary 3 Comments

Over the past year many nifty sites such as digg.com, reddit.com, and del.icio.us all have become almost iconic in their ability to not only aggregate news but to also provide a way for the users to choose what news they like in the form of a ratings system. Unfortunately what has started as a great idea has now become the 800lb gorilla for web publishers in the form of the traffic these sites can generate. Just like the first internet bubble things are about to get ugly for these sites as they are quickly becoming victims of their own success. Although I could list many reasons why these sites face an uncertain future the three I list below are maybe the biggest problems facing social bookmarking so far.

iPhone Delayed?

December 18, 2006 Apple No Comments

Macrumors (and many others) are reporting that the Apple iPhone might be delayed until post-Macworld due to manufacturing problems. Of course this is pure speculation but one very interesting tid-bit that was mentioned in the posts was the possibility that the iPhone will only support GSM/EDGE. Back in this post I made the same suggestions since when you examine the market you will quickly find that the GSM/EDGE technology is by far the most widespread and would offer Apple the largest possible target-able customer base for the iPhone. Unfortunately this will limit the speeds at which users of the device could download content from the network. My Blackberry uses the same technology and there are times when it can seem quite poky compared to the newer 3G technologies.

*Of course you can also read (on the same site) about how the iPhone is going to be released today… <sigh> So when it will actually arrive is anyone’s guess.

Dirt Devil Kone Hand Vac Mini-Review

December 18, 2006 Reviews No Comments

Dustbuster-Kone So I was walking through Target the other day and saw this hand-vac and I just had to have it. It just looks so cool, and was a perfect solution to fix some of the Roomba’s shortcomings. At only $39 I figured I would give it a try since I really needed a small hand vac and hated how most of the traditional ones looked. Once I got home and tried it out I made a very interesting discovery, this little hand vac rocks. Seriously, it can get into all the little nooks and crannies that my Roomba can’t and this little vac has serious power.

Person Of The Year: Us?

December 17, 2006 Commentary No Comments

Vert.Time.Cover Wonderful. Now everyone is going to start a blog. ;-)

Of course the announcement from CNN/Time Magazine that we have all been named “Person Of The Year” only confirms what many of us already know; the technology revolution we were promised in the late 90s as a result of the widespread adoption of the internet has finally happened. No longer is news or information of any kind found anyplace faster than through online resources such as blogs and other social web sites such as digg.com or reddit.com.

Why DRM-Enabled Music & Video Could Be A Waste Of Money

December 15, 2006 Commentary No Comments

Everyone hates having to deal with DRM enabled music and video but not many consider if the purchase is really a good investment over the long term. Realistically the music or video you purchase now uses a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system that may not be used several years down the road. If the service you used goes out of business can you continue to access your content? As each form of DRM is cracked, another type is then developed to replace it sometimes making older files obsolete. These situations can create a very compelling case for services which offer music and video downloads minus the DRM headaches, since these files will still be useful long after the services have gone the way of the dodo.

Ditching Cable TV Service – One Year Later

October 20, 2008

Let me just get right to the point and say that ditching the $75+ per month Cable TV service over one year ago and going solely with online video offerings was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Seriously. I don’t miss the crappy reality shows, nor do I miss the jamming of [...]

Right on the heels of my BMW 328xi review comes this rare chance to sample something truly special. Yes, there is nirvana and no it’s not a rock band. 2007 Mercedes-Benz C230 Sport Mini-Review

February 11, 2007

So what’s a BMW fan like myself doing reviewing a Mercedes? Well, like the old saying goes “know thy enemy” and as far as rivalries go, BMW and Mercedes are one of the most well known.
