6 Reasons Why Linux Beats Windows & Mac OSX Hands Down

November 5, 2007 Commentary 5 Comments

I know what you are thinking. This guy just has to be nuts or on something really good. No I am not completely crazy and the six reasons Linux will win out over Mac OSX, Windows, and anything else out there are not completely whacked either. Of course Linux itself is not going to suddenly take over the OS world but there are clear signs already that it might just usurp Windows as the next de-facto desktop OS for both home and corporate users and even my beloved OSX might end up as road-kill in the process. So is this a good thing? Are we doomed? Maybe, but right now there are six reasons why you might want to be just a bit worried.

Blackberry 8310 Curve Mini-Review

November 4, 2007 Blackberry, Reviews 3 Comments

583 47 In a lot of ways the new Blackberry 8310 Curve (AT&T version) is very similar to the 8800. It supports media playback, GPS, and all the expected Blackberry features for email and PIM. Where the curve differs is in size, weight, and several interesting features pulled from the other popular consumer Blackberry, the Pearl. Having owned several Blackberries and numerous other cell phones my expectation with the 8310 was centered around the idea that the 8310 was the replacement for the very popular 8700c that served me well for far longer than I anticipated it would (still works even now, years later…). So how does the 8310 compare? Can it improve upon both the 8800 and the 8700c? The short answer is yes, and read on for more details on how I think the 8310 might just be one of the best Blackberries yet.

Over A Year Later And Windows Vista Is Still Not Worth It

November 1, 2007 Commentary 28 Comments

It has been over one year since my first experience running Microsoft’s *supposed* next generation OS and boy have things not changed. You would think that Microsoft would have made major changes to Windows Vista in an attempt to reverse the downward spiral over the last year but so far no luck. Not surprisingly we saw over this last year two fantastic releases from Ubuntu and the release of Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard with nothing more than a few security patches from Microsoft. As Microsoft continues to waste time trying to force Windows Vista on a much more educated public these other alternatives have been doing nothing but chewing away at their long held lead in the desktop OS market. So has my opinion of Windows Vista changed? Like the OS itself my opinion has not budged so here are four more reasons why Microsoft Windows Vista is still just not worth it.

Ditching Cable TV Service – One Year Later

October 20, 2008

Let me just get right to the point and say that ditching the $75+ per month Cable TV service over one year ago and going solely with online video offerings was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Seriously. I don’t miss the crappy reality shows, nor do I miss the jamming of [...]

Roomba 530 Mini-Review

February 18, 2008

After almost two years running my original iRobot Roomba Discovery the poor little guy was starting to look a little worse for wear. iRobot advises that you should clean the brushes and such after no more than three full cleaning cycles, something my Roomba was not always subject to and the results were starting to [...]

BMW 335i Mini-Review

March 29, 2007

Right on the heels of my BMW 328xi review comes this rare chance to sample something truly special. Yes, there is nirvana and no it’s not a rock band. For BMW enthusiasts it can be found in the drivers seat of the 2007 BMW 335i thanks to the technological tour-de-force that is BMW’s latest enterprising [...]

2007 Mercedes-Benz C230 Sport Mini-Review

February 11, 2007

So what’s a BMW fan like myself doing reviewing a Mercedes? Well, like the old saying goes “know thy enemy” and as far as rivalries go, BMW and Mercedes are one of the most well known. Although Mercedes-Benz answer to the latest BMW 3-series is still several months away the current C-class is no slouch. [...]

2007 BMW 328xi Mini-Review

Once in a while a car comes along that changes your perceptions on just what an automobile should be. For myself that car was a 2000 BMW 328i that I had the opportunity to own and enjoy for several years. The car impressed me so much I have been a BMW owner ever since. So [...]

Yet Another Reason Why eBay Is A Total Joke

January 28, 2007

I can’t believe eBay is still in business considering the huge number of scams that seem to pervade the site like flies on you-know-what. Just this past week I attempted to use eBay to auction off two notebook computers and quickly discovered that this was an impossible task thanks to all the scammers who now [...]
